St. Lawrence Fishing Communities - Norwood, NY

Norwood Pond is a popular spot on the Raquette River and can be quite busy especially during the annual Norwood Regatta, which is no longer a boat race, but rather snowmobile races on the unfrozen water.

This “Nice Place to Live” includes a some niche shopping, a home-town diner, convenience store/gas station and is home to the Norwood Village Concert Series during the summers in the village park. This concert series is the oldest running in the county and draws hundreds for the concerts held on Thursday and Sunday evenings.

Norwood is a village within the Town of Potsdam, and the villages are only about 5 miles apart. In Potsdam, there is plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as home to two colleges.

The section of the river between Potsdam and Norwood is often forgotten because of the dams obstructing the river. Canoes and other easily portaged boats are ideal to navigate this section of river where fishing pressure is light. Smallmouths, walleyes, and northern pike are the predominate gamefish. In the spring Norwood Pond is a popular spot for bullhead fishing.
