St. Lawrence Fishing Communities - Morristown, NYThis picturesque village on the St. Lawrence River is known as the “Gateway to the Thousand Islands.” Wright’s Marina offers boaters and angler’s all the necessary items for a great day for fishing on the St. Lawrence. The marina has docks, gas, ice, groceries, restrooms, marine supplies, bait, and marine services. In the area is excellent habitat for large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, muskie, crappie, perch, bluegill, channel cats, bullhead and carp. Josephine’s Bistro is located just off the boat launch area, serving lunch and dinner, with a fully licensed bar. They also offer breakfast on the weekends. This windmill, circa 1825 and located in Chapman Park in the Village of Morristown, was built by Hugh McConnell, a miller from Scotland. After Mr. McConnell drowned in 1826 the mill was abandoned. Through the 1800's it served as a local jail and during World War II it was operated as an Air Warning Post. After the war it served briefly as the American Legion Club House. The Chapman family donated the land to the Village. This windmill, the only such structure in the area on the American side of the river, is one of seven Morristown structures listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The area near Jacques Cartier State Park just outside Morristown is a good spot for northern pike, and American Island is a good spot for muskie. Places to Stay
