Frederic Remington Art Museum

The Frederic Remington Art Museum is located on the banks of the beautiful St. Lawrence River. The Museum is housed in three historic homes. The Museum's collection is made up of a great selection of works from every phase of Remington's artistic career, including 17 bronze sculptures, hundreds of oil and watercolor paintings, and illustrations, which appeared in a variety of publications. On display are many personal belongings that enable visitors to have a glimpse into the life of Frederic Remington.

Frederic Remington is easily one of the most recognizable of all American artists. Born in New York's North Country, in Canton, NY at the start of the Civil War, he spent most of his childhood here and was brought home for his final rest in Canton's Evergreen Cemetery.

Kid's Place

The Eva Caten Remington Education Center, located next door to the Remington Museum at 323 Washington Street, opened in September 2004, is offering North Country families and museum visitors unprecedented learning, art, and play space in the form of children's interactive galleries and an art studio. These spaces compose what we call Kid's Place! It includes the opportunity for kids to explore the Wild West with active displays, finger paint, use watercolors, clay, and other artistic media. Special classes are held occasionally.
