Arts Council Offers Drawing & Painting Classes - 7/23/2010

Drawing & Painting for Teens & Adults at SLC Arts Council
Students ages twelve and older are invited to learn drawing and painting in a variety of arts classes offered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council this August, including a special Pastel Intensive with Diane Leifheit! All classes are held on the second floor of Downtown Snell Hall in Potsdam. Life Drawing for Ages 12-16 with Danielle Johns - Tuesdays, August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 from 3:30-5:00pm. Teens learn how to draw by using still life and live models with pencil, charcoal, and ink methods. Different arrangements, techniques, and poses will be presented in each class, but there are no prerequisites. Each class: $15, please bring a large drawing pad, a variety of drawing pencils, a kneaded eraser and a good pink eraser.
Art History for Ages 12-17 with Danielle Johns – Wednesdays, August 4, 11, 18, 25 from 3:30-5:00pm. Teens explore different movements in art history by learning to draw and paint in the styles of Art Noveau, Symbolism, Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and more. Each class explores a different art movement – there are no pre-requisites. Each class: $15, plus $8 materials fee.
Two-Day Intensive Pastel Painting with Diane Leifheit - Saturday and Sunday, August 14th & 15th from 9:30am-4:00pm. Diane Leifheit will guide students in two days of immersive experience in pastel painting. Students will learn what makes good pastel crayons and how to use them to achieve gorgeous atmospheric effects. This class is appropriate for intermediate students with some drawing experience. Prior experience with pastels is very helpful. $80, Materials fee: $16. Please bring: set of pastels, preferably one set of hard and one set of soft pastels; sketchbook; 16x20 piece of foam board; oil bristol brush; Turpinoid; tape; apron or smock; landscape photos. Comics Club - Group 2 with Dave W. Ferry - Saturday, August 21st from 10:00am-Noon. Ages 12-Adult. This monthly series of classes introduces youth and adults to the world of comic creation. Explore sketching and forming characters, perspective drawing, sequential storytelling, and most importantly—bringing ideas to life! $20, please bring a sketchbook, good eraser, and pencils. |
